Reception + Artist Talk: Samantha Harrison – Recreations of Myth and Spirit

This series recreates mythological and religious figures as modern people of diverse backgrounds. These models are security guards, baristas, artists, computer programmers, and entrepreneurs, but in these paintings they become god-like. Each work attempts to match each model to different iconic figures based on a moment of perceived similarity, while also deliberately mismatching the models in other aspects of their visual characteristics, such as their perceived racial identity, or biological sex.
