Fri Sep 30  Opportunity: Sharing Space with another Artist: I am interested in renting and sharing a space with another artist. Ideally we would share a small retail space to be used as a studio/gallery where we would also sell our work. I am open to either Gibsons or Sechelt but I live in Sechelt so that would be simpler. I cannot pay more than 1/2 of $850-900 per month at this time. There would have to be 24/7 access (and internet which may have to cost extra). If it was big enough we could potentially hold classes there occasionally. I would prefer that the gallery was not open 7 days a week more like Tuesday-Saturday choice of days is flexible and we could share those 5 days between us for managing the retail/gallery side of things., 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM. 604-885-8193 · calmquist58@gmail.com

While discussing the preservation of wilderness in a manner that delineates nature as Other, do we reach a disconnect that inhibits Humans from endowing flora and fauna with an interiority analogous with that of humans? Tue Oct 11  PR – Fall Speaker Series: Archaeology on Xwe’etay/Lasqueti with Dana Lepofsky: While considered off the beaten path today, the archaeology of Xwe’etay/Lasqueti Island demonstrates that the island’s position in the middle of the Salish Sea meant that it was a center for a large and thriving permanent community, with wide social and economic connections.   As part of the Xwe’etay/Lasqueti Archaeology Project (www.lasquetiarc.ca ) we are learning much about the rich Indigenous heritage of the island.  In this talk, we will present some of what we have learned about the island’s archaeological record, and also talk about how to best honor and protect these precious insights into the past — so they are preserved for the future.
