Fire Jumping Ceremony – Chaharshanbe Suri

FreeThe event is called Chaharshanbe Suri and translates to “Scarlet Wednesday” in Farsi. This ancient Persian practice that takes place on the last Tuesday night (eve of the Wednesday) before the spring equinox. This year, it falls on March 12.
One major part of the Chaharshanbe Suri celebration is to jump over fire. Historically, Persians have recognized fire as a sacred element, one that represents light, wisdom and truth. This cleansing practice of jumping over the fire is meant to bring good luck and good fortune as we prepare to enter a new year.
We will be serving hot tea and sweets and will have a mini exhibition set up to provide some context around this and other Noruz practices. This event is open to all ages and is FREE.
