SC Arts Centre: Sechelt Arts Festival: Durational Taiko: Celebrating the Equinox

Taiko a thousands’ of years ceremonial tradition that bring entire communities together—lasting for hours to days—as a form of collective healing and resilience. Taiko players from the Vancouver and Sunshine Coast taiko community will gather for a ceremonial offering in honour of our chosen and biological ancestors.

Public Invitation: Witnesses are invited to observe and meditate through deep listening and stillness. One handmade practice drum will be available for those who feel called to play. At times, traditional pieces will be played. If you choose to join in, we encourage you to support the pulse by playing the backbeat or grounding rhythms. This is a collective space for healing and connection—please tune in and play in a way that complements the energy of the group.

Sechelt Arts Festival: Festival Procession: Equinox Raven

In collaboration with Rogue Arts Society, the Sechelt Arts Festival invites you to a celebration of Sinku, the deep waters of the Salish Sea, its ocean inhabitants, its underwater currents, its stories of travel and exchange, and its vitalness to our communities. Sechelt, as the land between two waters, has been shaped by the Salish Sea.

To honour of this magical moment, we will gather at 5:30pm on Ocean Ave for a procession along the waterfront guided by musicians, drummers, dancers and puppets – all celebrating the creatures of the sea. Weaving shíshálh drumming, song and storytelling, with the power of taiko and the beauty of the shakuhachi flute, the procession unfolds stories of the sea on the Fall Equinox.

Heritage Playhouse: Off the Page – Juliet: A Revenge Comedy

co-written by Pippa Mackie and Ryan Gladstone, had a sold-out run and holdover at The Cultch in 2024.  Her name is Juliet, and she’s not dying for you anymore. In this imaginative and comedic spin on Romeo & Juliet, the titular heroine refuses to die for someone she just met two days ago. “Wherefore art thou Romeo?” Who cares! Juliet takes matters into her own hands and recruits a team of Shakespeare’s most famous tragic heroines.
