Tech and nature nerd field trip at Elphinstone Farm

Come hang out and learn for a day with techy and farmy nerds at the beautiful Elphinstone farm in Gibson’s. A recently adopted asset, this nascent farm is set to become a home and hub for dweb* x agricultural tech in the Sunshine Coast.

This event is intended for curious people of all ages!

Program for the day ( 11:30am to ~6:30pm) :

* Mesh Curious workshop ( https://dwebyvr.org/meshcurious/ ) with Emily and Jacob. Learn about decentralized, offgrid networking technology. We’ll be coordinating a group buy ahead of time. More details to come!

* Wetland agriculture with Arturo Farias. We’re investigating the farmland with an eye to constructing a chinampas style wetland agriculture. Arturo will show and tell some of his previous work on the subject

* Mycelial Networking (topic TBC) with Mendel Skulski from the most excellent https://futureecologies.net

* Citizen Science with iNaturalist for beginners – with Matthew Forster. We’ll onboard participants to the iNaturalist platform ( https://www.inaturalist.ca ), explain some of the community practices and have some fun challenges for the day.

* Farm tour – Elphinstone farm is still nascent as a farming operation, but it’s a beautiful space and we’re happy to share the visions.

Admissions are by donation (recommended $20+). We’ll use all provided funds to first cover hard expenses (insurance, rentals, etc) then an even split between presenters.

Times are approximate and subject to change based on ferry operation. Event opening should coincide with arrival of every participant travelling on the 9:50AM ferry from Horseshoe Bay.
