Wild Westcoast Basketry - Susan Canning
I have been making baskets from cedar, big leaf maple and willow bark for the past 5 years.
I love using the many colourful wild native barks of the Pacific coast.
I harvest cedar bark from our local forest and grow 6 types of willow on my property. My baskets are woven using traditional methods and I incorporate modern mixed bark designs with Canadian & European influences.
I studied basketry with Ivan Rospypinksi from Bella Bella, Joan Carrigan from Salt Spring Island, Jessica Silvey from this coast and Stephanie Craig from the Columbia River area, Oregon.
