Michelle Neilson Art

Tours
Art Crawl #
64

Michelle’s artistic journey began in the late 1980s at the University of Alberta, where she studied Fine Arts. While primarily focusing on painting and sculpture, she also contributed a regular cartoon strip to the university newspaper. This passion for visual storytelling continued while living in Montreal, where she also contributed to the Concordia student newspaper. Years later, after studying business at Simon Fraser University, Michelle co-founded a natural food company. In 2023, she sold the business, which set the stage for a return to her creative roots. Today, Michelle is immersed in a series of acrylic paintings on wood. Drawing inspiration from Joan Miro, Picasso and mid-century modernism, she explores themes of the mundane, the absurd and the human condition.

Art Crawl Details

Meet Michelle Neilson: a lifelong doodler, serial entrepreneur, and novice gardener. As a local artist, she’s on a mission to entertain and provoke moments of reflection in the mundane, the magical and the human condition. Michelle is diving headfirst into the exploration of her creative voice, crafting a collection of flowing abstract one dimensional paintings. Her style? It’s a mix of childish whimsy, playful absurdity, and just a hint of psychedelia. Please come by to meet the artist, provide feedback, suggest new subjects for future works, or just hang out on the back deck in the sun.
