This eclectic program of music explores the essence of humanity and reflects on the human condition as it appears in our internal self-awareness, our relationships with others, and our interaction with the natural world. Humanity is a complex blend of profound empathy, creative intelligence, and destructive potential, often defined by its search for meaning, connection to nature, and capacity for both love and cruelty. We are all social creatures navigating mortality, shaped by our interactions, and driven by a need for compassion and a responsibility to protect our shared existence.
The program will include songs in different styles and genres and will highlight text and music by great Canadian artists: Dennis Lee, author and co-founder of the House of Anansi Press, Joni Mitchell, Connie Kaldor and The Rankin Family.
Under direction of Artistic Director Sarona Mynhardt, we will be joined by Toby Aldren on piano, and Bernard Blary & Yewon Shin on flute.
