Norbert Jakubke is a woodcarver who draws inspiration from the imaginative corners of the world.
His deep respect for Indigenous art led him early on to study West Coast carving at Klee Wyck, where he honed his carving and knife techniques under the mentorship of Terry Starr, a master carver from the Tsimshian Nation.
Today, Norb’s work explores the humour and poetry of the natural world, particularly in his whimsical “Murder of Crows” series. Most recently, he’s shifted creative gears with “Tube Heads”—a playful take on nostalgic souls, inspired by the vacuum tubes of old radios.
Norb carves from his studio in Gibsons, B.C., where he lives with his wife, painter Ilona Kostolansky. Together, they share a life shaped by art, curiosity, and coastal light.
