Heritage Theatre :) Fool’s Gambit (a live theatre experiment in clown and improv)

Two nights only: May 14 & 15 at 7:30pm (doors 7pm) · 60 minutes

What happens when four physical theatre veterans are set loose in a studio to make the most playful improvised hour they can?

Aaron Malkin and Alastair Knowles (James & Jamesy), Nayana Fielkov (Ragmop Theatre), and Chloe Ziner (Mind of a Snail Puppet Co.) bring international touring credits and critical acclaim to a live, unscripted experiment in clown and improv.

A live camera joins the game—becoming character, scene partner, even set. Structure dissolves. Comedic risk-taking takes over. The only rule: keep playing.

Who wins? Who loses? Who cares? The joke is always on us.

Driven by a relentless pursuit of play—from the blink of an eye to the swing of a chandelier—these four performers chase the absurd wherever it hides.

Witness a gleefully unhinged experiment in avant-garde theatre.

Sechelt Arts Festival: Festival Procession: Equinox Raven

In collaboration with Rogue Arts Society, the Sechelt Arts Festival invites you to a celebration of Sinku, the deep waters of the Salish Sea, its ocean inhabitants, its underwater currents, its stories of travel and exchange, and its vitalness to our communities. Sechelt, as the land between two waters, has been shaped by the Salish Sea.

To honour of this magical moment, we will gather at 5:30pm on Ocean Ave for a procession along the waterfront guided by musicians, drummers, dancers and puppets – all celebrating the creatures of the sea. Weaving shíshálh drumming, song and storytelling, with the power of taiko and the beauty of the shakuhachi flute, the procession unfolds stories of the sea on the Fall Equinox.

Ryan McMahon at the Festival of the Written Arts

Engaging and honest, Ryan McMahon’s music is written from the heart and sung from the soul, following the lead of his peers Jason Isbell, Nathaniel Rateliff and Warren Zevon. With six releases under his name and two with his side project, the acclaimed trio Lion Bear Fox, McMahon has established himself as one of western Canada’s most prolific singer-songwriters, leading to multiple Vancouver Island Music Awards and supporting slots for Burton Cummings, Tom Cochrane, Mother Mother, Lee Harvey Osmond and others. On his latest album, Live Now, Ryan’s storytelling remains deeply personal, drawing on real-life stories. While firmly rooted in folk and roots, the album also explores hints of rock and Americana, creating a dynamic range to his music that makes each song an individual journey.
