I am returning to the Coast Cultural Alliance after a few years hiatus.
This past year, during a trip to Cornwall, UK, I was inspired by the colourful boats that moored in their harbours and replicas that adorned many art galleries that we visited. I set out this winter to build my own fleet. They now are competing for very limited space throughout our home along with birdhouses and flowers.
Full disclosure: The birdhouses are not for birds the flower arrangements don’t smell and the boats don’t float!
I am a retired plumber/pipefitter. The materials used consist of door knobs and pulls from demolished old schools, gauges, ends of copper piping, galvanized metal and garage sale find. Also, new nautical designs are created from driftwood salvaged from local beaches.
