SUMMARY:“Stealing Like an Artist” Painting Workshop with Marlene Lowden
DESCRIPTION:If you’re ready to get your hands seriously messy\, join me for a two-day painting extravaganza inspired by the idea that great artists gather\, remix\, and make it their own. Across these two days\, we’ll play\, experiment\, and make art that’s all yours\, inspired by sparks you find in other artists’ work. And yes\, we’ll be guided by David Bowie’s glorious wisdom: “The only art I’ll ever study is the stuff that I can steal from.” \nThis workshop is best for folks who have some painting experience (or who joined me for the previous weekend) —you don’t need to be a pro\, just comfy enough with your materials to dive in and explore.

SUMMARY:Raven's Cry Theatre: The Painted Life of E.J. Hughes
DESCRIPTION:Arts Documentary – two matinees only\, April 11 & 12 \nSince his death in 2007\, the renown of Canadian painter E.J. Hughes has only continued to grow. For decades\, his extraordinary works highlighting the landscapes of British Columbia have captivated the public\, but his personal life is less well known. A solitary man dedicated to his art\, Hughes led a fascinating life\, struggling to make ends meet until a discovery of his work led to its acclaim. Having attempted to work as a fisherman during the Depression\, he became a war artist during the Second World War and never gave up his passion for painting\, even when devotedly caring for his ailing wife.

SUMMARY:“Exploring the Foundations” A Playful Introduction to Painting
DESCRIPTION:If you’ve been wanting to begin (or rekindle) your painting journey\, join me\, Marlene Lowden\, for a gentle\, joy-filled 2 day workshop designed for beginners and anyone craving a brush-up. Together we’ll dive into experimentation\, explore mark-making\, and uncover the 7 elements of design—those essential building blocks that support every painting you’ll ever make. We’ll play with colour\, shape\, line\, value\, texture\, and form in ways that are accessible\, supportive\, and fun. Most of the exercises are rooted in my abstract painting practice\, but this workshop is open to those who prefer more object-based work; we are simply building your creative toolbox.

SUMMARY:Art Exhibition: Gibsons Public Art Gallery - BOISMIER\, LOGAN\, TAYLOR | Three Ways Home
DESCRIPTION:A dynamic\, multifaceted portrait of Sunshine Coast life in the Eve Smart Gallery\, sparking conversation and reflection on memory\, environment\, and interpretation. United by place but distinct in perspective\, each artist offers a unique interpretation of the Sunshine Coast’s iconic landscapes. Eva Taylor’s vivid acrylic landscapes capture the Coast’s energy and colour\, Matthew Boismier’s evocative watercolours reflect the emotional tone of the environment\, and Cambria Logan’s high contrast minimalism and use of a variety of mediums lend themselves to the creation of striking sculptural works. Together\, these artists invite viewers to explore how a shared subject can be transformed through three artistic lenses. \nJoin us for the Opening Reception on Saturday\, January 17th\, 2pm – 4pm!

SUMMARY:Art Exhibition: SC Arts Centre: Friends of the Gallery
DESCRIPTION:The Friends of the Gallery (FOG) is our annual celebration of the creativity of our membership. This wonderful exhibition launches our new year\, and features the work of members of the Sunshine Coast Arts Council. \nThe exhibition is a long-standing community event that has spanned more than 30 years. Its’ aim is to involve the broadest range of local artists\, to acknowledge the role of the arts in our community\, and to celebrate the extraordinary diversity in materials\, forms and approach. Artists are invited to submit one piece of art they have completed in the previous year to be shown in this group exhibition. Last year we had 111 artists\, making it the largest FOG exhibition yet!

SUMMARY:Art Exhibition: Gibsons Public Art Gallery - AMY DYCK | Portals to Elsewhere
DESCRIPTION:Pulling from the artist’s lived experience with disability and difficulty\, this exhibition in the Main Gallery is filled with creatures that are nuanced and strange\, broken and fierce\, and filled with conflicting layers that make up the whole of who they are. Mixed media sculptures\, drawings\, oil paintings\, and collage are used to create figures evolving through time\, existing in a wild place where strange beings can stretch their legs\, escape\, belong\, or find their place in the world. \nJoin us for the Opening Reception on Saturday\, January 17th\, 2pm – 4pm.
All are welcome!

SUMMARY:Art Exhibition: SC Arts Centre: Friends of the Gallery
DESCRIPTION:The Friends of the Gallery (FOG) is our annual celebration of the creativity of our membership.
