SUMMARY:Lonesome Monsters- the poetry of Bud Osborn
DESCRIPTION:Steve Schwabl\, Graham Ord and from North Vancouver\, Paul Blaney\, perform the poetry with music of Vancouver activist the late Bud Osborn. Lonesome Monsters was the original group with Bud\, Graham on saxes and Paul on Bass.\nBud Osborn was a prominent Canadian poet and activist known for his work in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside. His life and career were deeply intertwined with issues of drug addiction\, poverty\, and homelessness.\nOsborn was a strong advocate for harm reduction strategies\, including the establishment of legal supervised injection sites. He believed in addressing drug addiction through compassionate and practical measures rather than punitive approaches.\nHis poetry often reflected the struggles of those living in poverty and the challenges faced by drug users. He published several collections.\nHe was a founding member of the Vancouver Area Network of Drug Users (VANDU) and played a significant role in various initiatives aimed at improving the lives of marginalized individuals in his community.\nOsborn served on the Vancouver/Richmond Health Board\, where he continued to push for policies that supported drug users and addressed public health concerns.\nBud Osborn’s legacy as a poet and activist continues to inspire discussions around drug policy and social justice in Canada.

DESCRIPTION:to Oct 25th. In fragments of memories\, curiosities and dreams\, Nadina Tandy’s new work “Monopoly” invites us to travel into new worlds. Worlds made of mythologies and maps\, and specimens and memories\, gathered joyfully together on paper and sculpture. Collage becomes storytelling – disorienting stories\, humorous ones\, strange collections – wunderkammer – a glimpse into wonder. An exhibition on display in Joe’s Lounge from September 18th – October 25th\, 2026. \nVancouver-born Nadina Tandy (1962) has extensive experience in varied aspects of art and culture\, since 1988. She earned a Fine Arts diploma from Langara College (Vancouver) and studied drawing and painting at Emily Carr University of Art + Design (Vancouver). She also completed photography certificate studies at Concordia University (Montreal). Tandy has a broad exhibition history and her works are part of private and public collections throughout North America and Europe. Her work has been featured in print and on television and radio and she has also produced artwork for several book covers. She has produced and hosted cable TV shows and various info spots for CBC Television. She lives and works on the Sunshine Coast of British Columbia. \nJoin us for the Opening Reception on Saturday\, September 26th\, 2pm – 4pm. All are welcome!

There Lamia discovers that Bibi feels she can no longer care for her and plans to turn her over to a foster family. Lamia then runs away and meets up with her friend Saeed\, and together they embark on a series of misadventures while trying to gather the ingredients for making the cake. \nThis poignant story of life in 1990’s Iraq under Saddam’s iron-fisted rule and the hardship of Western sanctions is based on the childhood recollections of director Hasan Hadi in his directorial debut.
