DESCRIPTION:Sept 17 & 24. We’re going to make a turtle out of air-dry clay that becomes a multifunctional paint palette! The shell becomes a water dish\, and then after you’re done painting you can use it as a lid on your paints to keep them from drying out. We will form the turtle out of clay in the first session and paint it the following week. His experience as an improvisor\, his attention to detail and his versatility have allowed him to perform in very diverse musical settings. He’s played with the Warsaw Improviser’s Orchestra\, Vancouver Symphony Orchestra\, Turning Point Ensemble\, and Wayne Horvitz’s Conducted Improv Ensemble. He has also performed with Destroyer\, Frazey Ford\, Dan Mangan\, and Micatone.\nOther current and past collaborators include Aram Bajakian (Lou Reed\, Diana Krall)\, Christian Lillinger\, Tobias Delius\, Brad Henkel\, Michael Griener\, Samuel Hall\, Axel Dörner\, Mats Äleklint and Lina Allemano.\nTyson’s debut trio album was released in 2012 on Songlines Recordings\, and was followed up by a tour of major Canadian and U.S. Jazz Festivals.\nNaylor also composed the soundtrack to the films Lynnwood and Juken\, and contributed to the soundtrack of feature film Hector and the Search For Happiness. \nGAVIN YOUNGASH \nGavin Youngash is a Vancouver-based multi-instrumentalist performer\, session musician\, collaborator and composer. His catalogue includes live performance and recording both locally and internationally with notable Canadian acts including Frazey Ford\, Krystle Dos Santos (2x Western Canadian Music Award) and Vancouver gospel-soul powerhouse Dawn Pemberton (WCMA’s Urban Recording of the Year 2015).\nIn addition to his collaborative freelance and session work\, Youngash plays bass/keys and composes for Vancouver synth-pop group Star Captains\, is a writer and guitarist with westcoast post-rock noise outfit I Think I Saw You See Me and plays guitar/composes for his own ensemble\, the Gavin Youngash Trio.

DESCRIPTION:to Oct 25th. In fragments of memories\, curiosities and dreams\, Nadina Tandy’s new work “Monopoly” invites us to travel into new worlds. Worlds made of mythologies and maps\, and specimens and memories\, gathered joyfully together on paper and sculpture. Collage becomes storytelling – disorienting stories\, humorous ones\, strange collections – wunderkammer – a glimpse into wonder. An exhibition on display in Joe’s Lounge from September 18th – October 25th\, 2026. \nVancouver-born Nadina Tandy (1962) has extensive experience in varied aspects of art and culture\, since 1988. She earned a Fine Arts diploma from Langara College (Vancouver) and studied drawing and painting at Emily Carr University of Art + Design (Vancouver). She also completed photography certificate studies at Concordia University (Montreal). Tandy has a broad exhibition history and her works are part of private and public collections throughout North America and Europe. Her work has been featured in print and on television and radio and she has also produced artwork for several book covers. She has produced and hosted cable TV shows and various info spots for CBC Television.
