SUMMARY:Ravens Cry Theatre: Film Showing: The Blue Trail
DESCRIPTION:Brazil 2025\, 89 min\, Drama\nDirector: Gabriel Mascaro\nStarring: Denise Weinberg\, Rodrigo Santoro\, Miriam Socarras \nPortuguese with English subtitles \nSometime in the future\, the Brazilian government has implemented a policy of sending persons of 75 and older to a colony\, to conserve resources and presumably to comfortably live the last years of their lives. Teresa\, who at 77 was still working in a factory\, defies the order to leave and instead embarks on a journey seeking her one dream: to ride in an airplane. \nAlthough she has some resources\, including her life savings and her own determination\, she is challenged by needing her daughter’s permission to even buy a ticket and by being sought by authorities. SUMMARY:GPAG: Print Out of the Box with Saskia Jetten
DESCRIPTION:April 17 and 24\, 6pm – 9pm. How do you print IN the box? How do you play OUT of the box? A two session print workshop with Saskia Jetten. Practice a series of small print exercises that you can also build on in your own time to play\, get unstuck\, generate ideas\, and get your creative process flowing. Sessions are on Fridays April 17 & April 24\, from 6pm – 9pm each day. Tickets are $165 for both sessions with a discount for GPAG Members. There is a max. of 10 people\, so register online via EventBrite soon! \nSaskia Jetten is a contemporary fine artist and printmaker who gratefully resides in the swiya of the shíshálh Nation where she operates a printshop and artist studio. Continually exploring boundaries of printmaking with drawing at the base of it\, Saskia has exhibited internationally and received numerous prizes and grants. She immigrated in 2012\, mid-career\, from the Netherlands to the Canadian West Coast to build upon her experience and skills\, shake up\, broaden and challenge her views and art practice. Saskia nourishes the roots from both worlds in her being. Her art work touches on themes related to theatre\, identity\, and interpersonal relationships. The print-based work balances between fine and applied arts and takes shape in traditional prints on paper\, hand printed shawls and scarves to print-based installations and animation. A broad experience of over 30 years (international) teaching printmaking and fine art completes her practice.

SUMMARY:“Stealing Like an Artist” Painting Workshop with Marlene Lowden
DESCRIPTION:If you’re ready to get your hands seriously messy\, join me for a two-day painting extravaganza inspired by the idea that great artists gather\, remix\, and make it their own. Across these two days\, we’ll play\, experiment\, and make art that’s all yours\, inspired by sparks you find in other artists’ work. And yes\, we’ll be guided by David Bowie’s glorious wisdom: “The only art I’ll ever study is the stuff that I can steal from.” \nThis workshop is best for folks who have some painting experience (or who joined me for the previous weekend) —you don’t need to be a pro\, just comfy enough with your materials to dive in and explore.

SUMMARY:Davis Bay Hall: Mixed Media Blackout Poetry Workshop with Tzaddi Gordon
DESCRIPTION:In this fun\, supportive class\, you will:\n– Learn to craft new meaning from old stories\n– Discover accessible\, creative techniques for transforming book pages into Blackout Poetry or micro-fiction\n– Finish at least one piece of original art\n– Gain a new mode of creative expression that you can play with almost anywhere! \nThis class is suitable for both beginners and experienced artists. It’s designed for adults\, but tweens or teens with an adult companion are welcome. \nAll supplies are included. \nTzaddi Gordon is a mixed-media artist with a rich body of found poetry work created from vintage book pages. She adores many things about vintage books: the archaic or quirky words and illustrations\, the typesetting\, and the impressions left by traditional printing presses. She takes particular pleasure in creating new meaning out of outmoded or dogmatic text and imagery.

SUMMARY:Heritage Playhouse: Screening of 'EMERGENCE: Women in the Storm' | Sunshine Coast Climate Faire
DESCRIPTION:To wrap up the second Sunshine Coast Climate Faire\, join us for this special screening of ‘Emergence’\, followed by Q&A with filmmakers Nova Ami & Velcrow Ripper! By donation. \nClimate change is here. As heat domes\, atmospheric rivers and wildfires reshape our world\, how do we protect what matters most? EMERGENCE: Women in the Storm goes beyond the headlines to explore how women are navigating climate emergencies. \nRecent disasters\, including the wildfire that burned the town of Lytton to the ground and the devastating floods in the Fraser Valley\, are seen through the eyes of survivors\, while emergency responders and community organizers provide perspectives on preparing for – and moving beyond – the worst. Meghan Fandrich’s reflective readings from Burning Sage: Poems from the Lytton Fire\, written after losing her town to the blaze\, are woven together with stories of healing\, resilience and hope in the face of an uncertain future. \nIntimate and beautifully crafted\, the film offers insights on how to live in this new reality\, finding ways to carry on without giving up.
