SUMMARY:Heritage Playhouse: Screening of 'EMERGENCE: Women in the Storm' | Sunshine Coast Climate Faire
DESCRIPTION:To wrap up the second Sunshine Coast Climate Faire\, join us for this special screening of ‘Emergence’\, followed by Q&A with filmmakers Nova Ami & Velcrow Ripper! By donation. \nClimate change is here. As heat domes\, atmospheric rivers and wildfires reshape our world\, how do we protect what matters most? EMERGENCE: Women in the Storm goes beyond the headlines to explore how women are navigating climate emergencies. \nRecent disasters\, including the wildfire that burned the town of Lytton to the ground and the devastating floods in the Fraser Valley\, are seen through the eyes of survivors\, while emergency responders and community organizers provide perspectives on preparing for – and moving beyond – the worst. Meghan Fandrich’s reflective readings from Burning Sage: Poems from the Lytton Fire\, written after losing her town to the blaze\, are woven together with stories of healing\, resilience and hope in the face of an uncertain future. \nIntimate and beautifully crafted\, the film offers insights on how to live in this new reality\, finding ways to carry on without giving up.

SUMMARY:Heritage Playhouse: No Fixed Address: The White Cart Memorial Film Screening
DESCRIPTION:Join us for the first showing of this powerful film on the Sunshine Coast followed by a conversation-discussion. A powerful and intimate documentary that sheds light on a deeply overlooked aspect of the homelessness crisis: people’s grief following the death of someone they care about. Through the voices and stories of individuals living with unstable housing in Kelowna\, the film explores what it means to grieve without a house\, and how loss echoes through a community already struggling to survive. \nLearn more here.

SUMMARY:Gibsons Public Library: Teen Film Screening: Slash/Back
DESCRIPTION:Join us in celebration of National Canadian Film Day for this screening of Slash/Back from Director Nyla Innuksuk (Inuk). \nWhen an alien invasion rocks the quiet hamlet of Pangnirtung\, Nunavut\, it falls on a group of teenage girls to fight back and defend their community. Her feature directing debut\, Slash/Back offers a stylish vision from producer-director Nyla Innuksuk. Using makeshift weapons and their own horror movie knowledge\, the quartet of teens show the invaders that “nobody f—s with the girls from Pang.” With a cast of local actors and an Inuit cultural lens on the invasion genre\, this teen horror-comedy has more charm than an Arctic summer day has sunlight! \nNote this film is rated 14A with 86min runtime\, this event is intended for teens only. SUMMARY:SC Arts Centre: Sunday Film Series: The Stand
DESCRIPTION:We close the series with The Stand\, a film by Christopher Auchter that honours the Elders\, activists and supernatural spirits who helped shape a new future for the Haida Nation—and for all of Canada. In the fall of 1985\, a small group of Haida people stood on a muddy logging road on Lyell Island—and refused to move. What followed was a landmark act of peaceful resistance that helped spark a nationwide reckoning around land\, sovereignty and environmental justice. Drawing from over a hundred hours of electrifying archival footage\, The Stand immerses us in the tension\, courage and quiet humanity of that moment.\nDoors at 3:30; Entrance by donation

SUMMARY:Roberts Creek Hall: Film - Incandescence
DESCRIPTION:Award-winning directors Nova Ami and Velcrow Ripper weave together immersive on-the-ground footage with first-person accounts from Indigenous Elders\, first responders\, and ordinary people forced to react to a rapidly evolving ecosystem. \nAs climate change continues to escalate\, full suppression measures have largely failed\, leading to bigger\, more intense mega-fires. But there is another way. Indigenous knowledge keepers explain that the First Nations people traditionally used controlled burns to regenerate the land. \nPanel Discussion following the screening\,
