SUMMARY:The Kube: Art Exhibition - Knottie Lottie
DESCRIPTION:For this particular and peculiar collection\, Charlotte used the stark contrast of black thread against white fabric to create the shadows\, fine details\, and textures from Richard Breton’s 1565 publication Les songes drolatiques de Pantagruel (The Drolatic Dreams of Pantagruel). These hand embroidered pieces feature detailed images that are at once haunting and mesmerizing.

SUMMARY:Art Exhibition: GPAG - FILIPE FIGUEIRA | In Positive Space
DESCRIPTION:Combining bold\, simple shapes with organic textures\, Figueira pushes the abstraction of the subject while maintaining a sense of scene that is both familiar and challenging to the viewer\, conveying the joy and passion found in coastal landscapes. Mountains and rock formations that move across millenia\, trees shaped by decades of growth\, and the split second flicker of light on fast flowing water are expressed in his works. Playing with positive and negative space\, Figueira explores the energy and movement in landscapes across miniscule and massive timescales. \nJoin us for an Artist Demo on Thursday\, August 27th\, 2pm – 4pm and for the Opening Reception on Saturday\, August 29th\, 2pm – 4pm. In The Impossibility of Beauty\, Mindy Hemstalk gathers driftwood\, broken ceramic fragments\, and unaltered natural materials from the traditional\, unceded\, and ancestral territories of the shíshálh Nation\, assembling them into shrine‑like forms that honour the wild intelligence of the land. SUMMARY:Natural Fabric Dyeing Workshop- 3 Part Series
DESCRIPTION:Make a Journal with Fire Plants \nDye and print a fabric covered journal using locally gathered and grown ‘fire plants’. Inspired by the FireSmart BC Plant Guide\, we’ll explore the colour palette of a wildfire resilient landscape\, testing fire-resistant plants and risky vegetation. Discover the art supplies growing in your own backyard alongside methods for waterwise natural dyeing. Perfect for those curious about natural dye and botanical printing and for anyone looking for some creative encouragement to start learning more about wildfire resilience. \nAll materials provided. No previous dye or sewing experience necessary\, but if you have skills with patchwork you’ll be able to make a more complex design. Please only sign up if you are available for all 3 dates as you will work on the same project over the 3 sessions. When you register for Monday\, August 10\, you’ll be signing up for all 3 sessions. Ages 16+. \nAbout the Facilitator: Barbara Adler is an interdisciplinary artist and performer\, whose practice incorporates text\, music\, event making and design. The daughter and sister of Czech immigrants\, Barbara now lives in xwesam/Roberts Creek. Her recent projects centre slow and process-led creation\, using intricate textile objects\, natural dye and botanical printing to focus work around relational time and seasonal cycles. In 2023\, she joined The Only Animal (TOA) as its Artistic Director. She holds an MFA in Interdisciplinary Studies and a BA in Art and Cultural Studies\, both from Simon Fraser University. \nMondays\, August 10\, 17\, 31\, 2:30-4:30pm on the Sechelt Library Lawn \nOnline Registration required.

SUMMARY:Art Exhibition: GPAG - MINDY HEMSTALK | The Impossibility of Beauty
DESCRIPTION:to Sept 27th. These works emerge from an intense personal journey of rupture and rebirth\, shaped by the realization that the dominant cultural definitions of beauty rooted in colonial and patriarchal paradoxes are impossible by design; demanding women be sovereign yet caged\, expressive yet silent\, sensual yet contained. \nAn exhibition on display in Joe’s Lounge. Join us for the Opening Reception on Saturday\, August 29th\, 2pm – 4pm. All are welcome!

SUMMARY:Art Exhibition: GPAG - SOLÈNE CHATAIN | Abandoned Hands
DESCRIPTION:Exploring what we make by hand\, what we build through technology\, and what we leave behind\, Solène Chatain’s ceramic sculptures reflect on the complex relationships between human ingenuity\, industry\, technology\, and the natural world. Handbuilt and carved ceramic forms are combined with discarded fragments of rusted machinery gathered from beaches\, forests\, and industrial sites\, transforming remnants of human industry into objects of contemplation. Through these sculptures\, Chatain explores the tension between holding on and letting go\, between progress and consequence\, between the handmade and the technological. \nJoin us for the Opening Reception on Sat. Aug. 29th\, 2pm – 4pm; and for an Artist Demo on Sun. Sept. 20th\, 2pm – 3pm. All are welcome!

All are welcome!

SUMMARY:Art Exhibition: GPAG - MINDY HEMSTALK | The Impossibility of Beauty
DESCRIPTION:to Sept 27th.
