SUMMARY:Art Exhibition: SCAC - wa shew̓áy̓ ta x̱wítl’em “Growing Strings / Fibres”
DESCRIPTION:to Aug 16th. wa shew̓áy̓ ta x̱wítl’em is the name of a new growing space in Gibsons that brings together Indigenous plants traditionally used for weaving\, cordage\, dye\, and textile practices while supporting the restoration of the pond ecosystem and surrounding habitat. This garden is a living space of cultural revitalization\, ecological care\, and intergenerational knowledge sharing rooted in Sḵwx̱wú7mesh teachings. \nAlongside the launch of this space\, this exhibition shares the work of artists whose work expresses this interconnectedness. Some are artists who have led the creation of wa shew̓áy̓ ta x̱wítl’em\, including Cease Wyss\, Jaz Whitford and Megan Dewar. Their work shares the central ethos of the garden – to be in community as a verb – to commune\, meaning-make and story-bear as a collective act of decolonial joy.

SUMMARY:Art Exhibition: GPAG - LISA BLACKWELL | Earthly Emergence
DESCRIPTION:to Aug 18. Informed and inspired by the practice of observing the living world and the forces of nature\, Lisa Blackwell’s exhibition Earthly Emergence features hand built sculptures created from clay. Blackwell views the biological imperative of growth and the mutual symbiotic relationships between flora\, fauna\, and fungi as sources of hopefulness and optimism; these primordial connections\, represented by Blackwell’s biomorphic sculptures\, have much to teach us about cooperation\, altruism\, and collaboration. An exhibition on display in the Main and Eve Smart Galleries July 23rd – August 18th. \nJoin us for the opening reception of this exhibition on Saturday\, July 25th\, 2pm – 4pm. All are welcome!

SUMMARY:Art Exhibition: SCAC - Dawn Myers : Splendour: Celebrating The Collaborations In Our Natural World
DESCRIPTION:to Aug 15th. In the world of weaving sculptural forms with willow\, two powerful – and at times disparate – influences come together. \nBasketry is an ancient craft that has been practiced in virtually all human societies. Weavers then and now learn exacting techniques and styles to make their works useful and durable. \nThe pieces in this exhibit were inspired by Dawn’s daily walks in the forest and along the ocean shore\, and the great diversity in Nature. Today the word “diversity” is used often in our ever-changing society. But before the word ever left a human’s lips\, Nature had the concept perfected. Species\, all species\, are fully interdependent on their neighbours. Thus\, Nature does not merely tolerate diversity\, it thrives in it. It celebrates it. It stakes everything on it. Let us do the same.

SUMMARY:Art Exhibition: GPAG - GSINDLINGER | Untitled
DESCRIPTION:to Aug 18. An offering of confrontation\, emotion\, and dialogue on the seemingly inherent conflicting aspects\, both internal and external\, of the human persona. gsindlinger’s exhibition Untitled features mixed media pieces reflecting a fundamental process of resolution; a centralized need to complete or validate a significant emotional\, psychological\, or perceptive experience by creating a physical facsimile. These works represent an honest and vulnerable expression of difficult subjects\, some reflecting less desirable elements of humanity and the human experience. An exhibition in Joe’s Lounge on display July 23rd – August 18th\, 2026. \nJoin us for the Opening Reception on Saturday July 25th\, 2pm – 4pm. All are welcome!

SUMMARY:PR – The Alley: Artist Trading Card Summit 2026
DESCRIPTION:Calling all artists on the shores of the Salish Sea and beyond! You are invited to come for an afternoon of Artist Trading Cards. \nSUNDAY\, AUGUST 9\n12:30 to 2:00pm\nThe Alley\, upstairs from our store \nWhat’s that? You don’t know what Artist Trading Cards are? Well\, in short\, Artist Trading Cards are self-made unique works or small series\, signed and dated on the reverse by the artist/producer\, exchanged and collected by the people who participate in this collaborative event. There are only 2 “rules”: the cards must be 2.5″x3.5″ (the same as modern hockey cards or baseball cards)\, and they are only to be traded\, not sold. \nWe hold regular ATC meetups every month on the last Thursday of the month\, but that doesn’t really work well for anyone who has to take a ferry so for our birthday month\, we decided to have a ‘summit’ and time it in such a way that folks who have to travel from away can make a day of it and still get home and sleep in their own beds. See below for \nMake them ahead of time\, or make them on the spot. We’ll bring some blanks and other art supplies. \nAnd this is a family-friendly event! \nFERRY & OTHER TRAVEL INFO \nComing from Vancouver Island? Catch the 9:55am from Little River & head home on the 5:15pm (or 8:45pm) home \n[Hot tip: the location is only 2 blocks from the Westview ferry terminal so you don’t even need to bring your car! Unless you want to zip around elsewhere after the summit before you head home] \nComing up the Sunshine Coast? You’ll want the 10:35am from Earl’s Cove\, and the 4:55pm (or later) home. \nWant to make a weekend of it and also attend our birthday party on Saturday\, August 8? There are several accommodations within walking distance: \nWaterways\, A Boutique Hotel\nBase Camp Suites\nBeyond Bliss Suites \nPlus loads more a little further away\, and some truly amazing camping opportunities. Reach out to our wonderful Visitor Information Centre if you need any more information or advice.

SUMMARY:Art Exhibition: Gibsons Public Market - Christy Sverre
DESCRIPTION:A full-time abstract artist based in Gibsons\, and works daily from her permanent home studio and gallery. Through a playful\, semi-abstract style\, Christy translates the dynamism and raw energy of the sea and other subjects onto canvas. Her cohesive use of bold brushstrokes\, lines\, textures\, and mixed media reveals her fun nature and a love for what lies hidden beneath the surface.
