Forage: A Wild Garden Dyepot with Natalie Grambow
August 20 @ 10:00 am - August 21 @ 4:00 pm
$250.
In this 2-day workshop, students will delve into a world of colour on cloth that will be created from using natural dye sources. We will learn how to source plants for dyes by ethically foraging wild plants and garden plants around us, and by exploring dyes from sustainable natural dye producers.
The journey will begin with how to best prepare our fibers/cloth (mordants and tannins) and will continue with how to extract and coax colour from each type of dyestuff. We will explore immersion dyeing, direct printing with foraged plants, simple fabric manipulation with bound resist (clamping and tying) to create interesting patterns, as well as overdyeing in an organic indigo vat. Be prepared to be wowed by luscious hues, and an incredibly diverse palette of colours, textures, and patterns.
